Is that high-paying job that is making your dream condominium a reality 
actually killing you with stress? Yes, it is! The US-based Center for Work-Life Policy has come out with a study Extreme Jobs: The Dangerous Allure of the 70-Hour Workweek. What is the 70-hour workweek? Well, in many American companies, employees feel that to get ahead in life one has to put in 70 hours a week (everything else can be done in the rest of the time that’s left!) – which has become a kind of a new benchmark for all those workaholics out there. Now, obviously, there are going to be pitfalls in this steep career climb. So here are what the results of the study have to say. Around 64 per cent of those surveyed have said although their work pressures are ‘self-inflicted’, their jobs are taking a big toll on their personal lives. In the US, 70 per cent of those surveyed, and globally, 81 per cent, said that the break-neck speed of their careers have seriously undermined their health in terms of exercise, diet and stress. And 46 per cent of Americans and 59 per cent of global respondentshave said that their work gets in the way of their relationships (50 per cent Americans surveyed even said that their careers have started to affects their sex life!). Even here, men and women have different points of view. Of all the global respondents, 58 per cent of men said that they didn’t want to maintain these kind ofcrazy hours for more than one more year; among the women, a whopping 80 per cent said the same! No wonder they say that men are from Mars and women from Venus! But jokes apart, maybe it’s time for all of us to take stock of our work lives!
